Lichtenberg Castle in Thallichtenberg

description

brief description:

with a longitudinal section of 425 metres, Lichtenberg Castle, situated in the heart of the Palatinate Hills (Pfälzer Bergland), is among the largest castle complexes in Germany. It was built around 1200 by order of the Counts of Veldenz and the Dukes of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. Lichtenberg Castle was never conquered or destroyed by enemies but, approximately 200 years ago, it had to endure a ravaging fire. The district of Kusel, in charge of the reconstruction efforts, is rebuilding the most important parts of the castle complex, which has been classified as a historical monument since 1895. Today, it houses a restaurant, a youth hostel, an environmental museum and the Musikantenland Museum, which traces the history of the region´s travelling musicians. In addition, Lichtenberg Castle is also one of the hosts of the annual Palatia Jazz Festival
