Baroque Pavilion With Rose Garden

description

brief description:

the baroque building which, today, stands on the busy B41 federal highway in Ottweiler is known simply as the Pavilion. Commissioned by Prince William Henry of Nassau-Saarbrücken, local baroque master builder Friedrich Joachim Stengel drew up the plans for the little château, which is presumed to have been built in 1758/1759. Nestled in the château´s former garden, it thrones on an artificially created island amidst the Blies river. Prince William Henry used to reside there during his visits to Ottweiler, especially during hunting season. Since 1987, the Pavilion, which stands under landmark protection, houses the administration of the Protestant church district of Ottweiler. With original wainscoting and door trim panels from its construction period, a marble chimney and a renovated staircase, the beautiful historic château, to this day, evokes the baroque splendour of times past
