Mudam Luxembourg

brief description:

Situated on the Kirchberg Plateau, Luxembourg`s Museum of Modern Art, the Musée d`Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (or MUDAM for short) is a gem of contemporary design, conceived by the famous architect I.M. Pei. Perfectly combined with the remains of the battlement walls which once guarded the fortress city, the new construction, which appears rather humble on the outside, effortlessly blends in with the old. On the inside, the building, which houses exhibition spaces, an auditorium, a boutique and a café on separate levels, captivates by its rich variety of architectural facets. The design of the light-coloured walls and stairs (some of which are dramatically sweeping while others are straight and simple) is restrained, their forms are fluid. Combined with generous glass facades and roofs, an overall impression of a harmonious whole is created, exuding a certain weightlessness which animates visitors to explore the building further and discover a new perspective with every new step. There is nothing repetitious about this museum, in any sense. The successful exhibition beautifully merges with the space, exemplifying the symbiosis of art and architecture. Filming is only possible outside the museum`s opening hours. Green room/space for production/crew etc. can be set up in the café. Parking available.
